Luxada

I have already recommended Lux to any Lisbon visitor in this blog. This Friday was a perfect example of a great night at luxxx. Every time I have an excellent night at Lux I call it a "Luxada"; every time i go to Lisbon I go to Lux. Every time I go to Lux, I have a Luxada.
Its fairly simple, they like to throw great parties.
Sonic Culture, a pair of portuguese classics, (Expander & Manu) were celebrating their nineth year toghether, with an incredible set. This would eventually become a warm up for the following two presents lux had prepared for us.
First a man whom we must respect, for managing the label of love music. Void, alongside with Burger played an awesome set giving us a bit of everything; beauty, intensity, bounce, fun and interaction. He showed is his love for elongated sounds, little smooth and discrete rhythms in the background and potent breaks. I wasn't expecting to bounce so much for this concert, specially knowing what was coming next...
...From this German lovemusic addict we were sent straight to the underground, 500 metres under the usrface with a dark, dark, dark start, of the Minimal woman who won her way into my heart back in 2003, and now is just the genious of Darkmusik. Mrs, Magdalena Chojnacka, MAGDA.
It seems like she cant take it any darker than her new tracks "Doom Disco" and "48h crack in your base", but she does, she can always get meaner, stronger, trippier, heavier, darker and louder; keeping it ongoing for more than 3h, letting us leave lux with the 9:00 sunshine apearing behing the lisbon bridge.

The Night looked good before we got into the club; the best of the best were coming, and they surprised us with better than what is expected from the best of the best; so it was better than what i could imagine a the best night from the best dj's.  Void, Vasserman, Wolfgang Voigt is very special to me, with the foundation of kompakt alongside with Michael Mayer; he represents to me all the beauty in his label; all the Gui Boratto's, kiki's and superpitchers, while michael mayer is the strong side of kompakt in my eyes; his Audion, Koze, of Wrume. First the best of Kompakt, to best of M_nus. Magda is M_nus minus M_nus to me; she is the person who can take a double negative and make a super positive. She needs so little, such short, discrete sounds to make complete masterpieces; it's the total representastion of abstract art in Minimal music. A collection of little uncombined sounds placed off beat, off place, to combine with strong pounding bases of Magda's unique interpretation of tru base Chicago music, and building up to a complete track, with a perfecto flow from trippiness, to darkness, to strength, to power. This Hip-hoppy natural instrument influence she has adopted over the years my Queen of Dark Bounce.

Side stepping away from usual post of heavy hitting minimal bass line we step off  a more disco side of affairs in anticipation for Trus'me's aperance in Barcelona at BeCool sunday October the 10th. Trus'me who emerged from whimsicale offering out of his music to various labels and sparking the beginning of a promising musical career for one very talented individual. I came across Trus'me and was hit immediately by refreshing nostalgic disco feel.

2008 saw the realse of his own label Prime Numbers, who had privallege to some Motor City Drum Ensemble realeses but as notably for me those of Linkwood.  Trus'me and Linkwood alike share similar clear jazz, funk and soul influences retaining a timesless feel to there music, almost a nostalgia for a period so familiar yet which has never existed.

Linkwood - Fudge Boogie

Trus'me should be a cool fit for BeCool.

Pig & Dan

These two boys have produced hundreds of tracks throughout the last decade with about 10 album releases a year since 2003. They have accomplished an incredible discography and have developped techno adapting to its changes throughout these last years.

Pig & Dan are made up on producers Igor "Pig" Tchkotoua & Dan Duncan. They met a number of years ago and from there have developed an extremely solid and fruitful partnership. After a few months of producing together they signed a deal with Dutch label, Sadie Records, they began to enter into the market and gain success. This gave the duo a boost and they started to produce two/three tunes a week. They then decided that it would be a good idea to build their own record company 'Submission' and work together with Sadie to create a bigger market. The rest is history.

Their latest release from july this month is Mussian Rother with four techno and tech-house songs with a very dark base:

Pig & Dan - Mussian Rother (promo edit)
Pig & Dan - Symphonies
Pig & Dan - Cubes

Ambivalent throws it down

It seems like M_nus wants to pound us down to the dancefloor again with this incredible Ambivalent album. The previous post on minus I didn't mention his quality and capacity to get us all dancing in a matter of seconds, but there is so much in this record label that ill wait for a release from each to describe their trajectory.
Kevin McHugh is an excellent producer who hasnt been releasing many albums per year, and works very precisely on his songs and remixes. Throughout these last five years he's been releasing very very good tracks and remixes with a very strong Minus trajectory, and from all his albums there has always been a star techno minimal hit. his dark style combined with loud twitters and combining melodic mids make him one of the best impulsive artists in this minimalistic ambient. He takes care of his groove, and mantains chance for change in rhythm, he's an artist to mix at full climax of the set. Here are some representative tracks to taste his art:

2006
Ambivalent - Boite Diabolique (Heartthrob mix)
Ambivalent - White tea Desciple

2007
Ambivalent - Palindrome
Ambivalent - Palindrome (Camea mix)
Ambivalent - Nugget

Ambivalent - R U OK (Kasper is OK mix)
Ambivalent - R U OK (Marco carolas 4 beat mix)

Enjoy your weekend?

This weekend cannot be missed; the party is guaranteed, Friday the 3rd of september, Anja Schneider is ready to make us bounce @ Raum's Ghoa Beach. I have described Anja's characteristic dark. thumping sounds, and her beat breaks; this years iThought album, plays with her happy side, although her bases make always very very mean tunes; well here you have them.

Anja Schneider - iThought (2010)
Anja Schneider - Amore (2010)

Saturday doesnt cut it short; as the great Mr.Kieran Hebder (Four tet) is coming here to play us his magnificence. He is the king of elongated sounds for me, the one who can keep long lasting synths entertaining and artistically perfect with most precision. But the most characteristic thing about Kieran Hebder is his great capacity to create very good music of many different styles of electronical music. This last year he has accomplished many releases which are superations of his previous masterpieces, he keeps a good chilled out party with excellent flows of sound, and when he's on stage he's kapeable of transforming that into an excellently flowing bouncing sound which will keep us movin' all night... Also, there i no better stage than Apolo's theatre ambient for this musical genious to play his tunes in one of the best soundsystems of the city.

Four Tet - Spirit Fingers (2003)
Four Tet - A joy (2010)
Four Tet - Angel Echoes (2010)
Four Tet - Sing (2010)

Boris Brejcha

With the 2007 release of Die Maschinen Controllieren Uns "The machines are controlling us", Boris Brejcha Became one of my favourite producers, and i became addicted to analising his musical structure and intensity. He has a very strong capacity to change the direction of his songs in a very little time space still mantaining a solid groove within his songs. Strong, dark and aggressive moments contrasted with some of the previously commented moments of electronical beauty in the Border Community entry become exemplary in songs like Brainstopper from the same album.

The 30th of this month he presents his latest album; "My Name Is", with more techno to make us pound the dancefloors of the globe with. He sais to combine in this album what he has learned from the many places he has been able to visit in these last years, and the musical connection within them. "my best moments and photographs are rfeflected in this album. (interview)

Thank you Border Community...

Border Community, a group of artist making our techno in everyway better. shaping it so you can learn to love it not only in the dancefloor. What makes me drown in a sea of love for Border Community is the mellow 7am techno when you can finish your set to a beautiful sunrise with the true techno lovers remaining in the dancefloor. The electronical symphony you plug after a hard day at work; Nathan Fake's Granfathered, or Extrawelt's Soopertracker. Also evidently we can neer leave behind the extreme loud dancetotechno coming from holden's or Ricardo Tobar's amongst other albums.

James Holden, the genius behind this record label has brought the English electronical scenario forth show its quality with producers like Avus (Scott Edwards), previously mentionned Nathan Fake, himself James Holden and other great British and not British minds to produce such masterpieces.

Matthias Tanzmann

Raum Presents Matthias Tanzmann with a 3 hour live set and a vs against martinez @ the Ghoa beach venue; I hope he extends to play some of his most varied material. Tanzmann has been djing since 1996 and has developped alongside with the musical variety which has been evolving throughout this last decade. He's always stayed on the house side of the table, but with a strong techno impulse, and some excellent tribal tunes with all kinds of record Labels; One of which is one of my personal favourites; Steve bug's Poker Flat. He's released a couple albums with Steve Bug, and has produced many songs with big Dj's and producers, making him one of this decades continuous party scenarios.

Kompakt and Drumcode @ Barcelona

Coincidence and luck bring the last two published posts in this blog together for an extreme party on Friday the 27th at sala Mephisto. For 10 euros, sala Mephisto will present Warehoused02 an event with Joel Mull (drumcode) and Robert Babicz (Kompakt) to hopefully present these last tracks they are about to publish. Alongside with them are other great names like Sian (Octopus) and Funk'd'Void (outpost). This is one of those techno parties which promises great dance music, continuous hard beats, and strong strong speakers pumping techno and tech-house through everyone’s veins. If there is a party I would recommend some saving up for next week, it is this one; it is one of those parties you are the last one to leave, come out, and put your sunglasses on, or keep them on, and start a new day, fresh with techno pumping from your ears. don’t worry, you can go to work after this, there’s no way ull fall asleep.
Funk'd'Void - Diabla
Sian - Zeroid Flight
Joel Mull - For me
Joel Mull - Harmonautic String

"Joel Mull, along with a few other swedish artists, put out the most slamming and truly unique techno. Technically speaking, this genre of electronic music is complex yet it is free from the usual conventions: dark rolling grooves and basslines, atmospheric synths, banging percussions and basskicks and piercing highs all crafted and blended together so well that the stuff sends shivers up my spine. So many unforgetable memories were provided by this very style...who needs drugs when you have Joel Mull?!"

More Bouncy Techno

After letting the delicacy of Kompakts house and tech-house take us on a tour around the Total 11 album, Drumcode Records (Adam Beyer's record label) brings us back to the pure bouncy techno we all crave for at four o'clock in the dancefloor. Nihad Tule and Nima Khak have released Framework; a great album with two very powerful tunes for this kind of dancefloor. They had already worked toghether for Tresoul, to release another great album in 2008 with chess and coconest

The Swedish Record label has also released a Joseph Capriati  album, Gashouder, with two other tracks of similar techno characteristics; only Joseph inserts a little more of his darker perspective on this techno.

Kompakt total 11

Kompakt.fm announces the new release of the total 11 album of their discography.  Matias AguayoPopnoname, Walls, Wolfgang Voigt, Gusgus, Maxime Dangles, Dj Koze, Jatoma, Jürgen Paape, Ada, Heiko Voss, Superpitcher, Justus Köhncke, The Field, Sog, Sebastien Bouchet, Jörg Burger, Thomas Fehlmann, Michael Mayer, Gui Boratto,  Robag Wruhme, Jonas Bering, ComaMugwump, It´s A Fine Line and Iggor Cavalera, are the artists in this latest release which will be availeable the 23rd of this month.

"The time has come and we are now into the double digits. It's a privilege to think that its now over 12 years ago that we, KOMPAKT remain still not only as we started as a record store and label but also a distribution home for over 40 record labels, booking agency for our proud family of DJ's and acts, plus a publishing and management house. We have grown, our family certainly has as well and our annual collection of music and of course the Total parties have become an institution of what our fans expect year after year. We consider ourselves lucky and in these times and with this 26 track collection in particularly…" Kompakt fm total 11

Exclussive BitterCrudeLemons Mix by Ruballum

I spent the summer with him, and he promissed me a mix; what I wasn't expecting was such a bouncy masterpiece; Ruballum has been djing for seven years now, and is the main reason to my admiration for electronic music; a person for whom I have a special care and love. Lorenzo de Miquel is a techno-fanatic with the necessity to have people bouncing on his dancefloor, and this mix makes nothing short of his desire; and I say this seated on my couch writing to you in between bumps and bounces as I listen to his new set.

From Buenos Aires, he sends all lemons this reason to dance;

Ruballum has a good Soundclod account which i would recommend to any techno mix lover as he likes to specify on the songs played, and the information of his sets. its good for all of us who like to have techno bouncing in our ears as we hang around at home; he commonly updates his mixes frequently and publishes his new dance mixes with all the new music that he daily learns, loves to be the first to hear of the new releases and is a great music-junky.

Juicy Music sends us new house from Puerto Rico

The latin club house has reached a new peak, with Robbie Riveras last release through Juicy Music, his record label since 2000. Not like Rivera was a new name to the dancefloor scene, as he's remixed songs from great album producers like Felix the Housecat or Faithless. This last album is a great exemplary of the pumping tribal house which demonstrates the Latin ambient this producer has lived around.

The Rivera Project has demonstrated with these two tracks that he wishes to continue in the newsflash of the great dancefloor all over the world.

The Rivera Project - The Tribal Sax (Robbie Rivera's Original mix)
The Rivera Project - Puerto Rico Vibe (Rivera's original)

Umek - OMGWTF

Umek released a new single the 16th OMGWTF through 1605 record label. Umek has had a large variety of music styles in his wide trajectory, but mostly i would describe him as an aggressive producer who like the dancing ambient to be accompannied by the strong beat given by his techno; this release is another example of his powerful techno with layers and layers of overlapping sounds building to a strong climax and a subsequent pure repetetive melodic track. He has developped his music style into many forms and aliases, but mantained his characteristic raw sounds with worked rhythm.

Previously this year he presented a good album with the same record label, with a great techno track which mantains this worked growth into a strong climax for an aggressive techno beat to perdure in all dancefloors.

Dear diary

From thursday forth, the party is guaranteed within the city of Barcelona; firstly, club 4 is presenting another great guest such as Matthew Dear, accompanied by Alberto R. The CLub 4 mentality continues, with great names in such a small venue. insanely so this place doesnt usually fill up, probably due to the contrast these parties have to the usual party ambient any other day in the same place with the name of City Hall (primarily looking for the touristic market). Highly recommend this night to any BCN partier.

Matthew Dear Lisbon Party
Matthew as Audion has produced some of my favourite tracks, and made one of the best concerts i have ever seen in "Lux" in Lisbon. Having lived there I can recommend another great club to any partier who visits Portugal. Portugal has the most beautiful clubs I've seen, mostly on the seafront and with beautiful views; Lux, is an amazing club, with the best sound distribution and cuality i have seen in a club, the buttom room is the portuguese paradise of techno, while the top balcony has a beautiful view to the river opening up into the sea. Continuing with the Lisbon party I cannot leave behind one of my favourite summer clubs; Op Art, is a little bar on the dock of Alcantara, Lisbon; and it is surrounded by water, you are in the river, under the Lisbon bridge dancing till sunshine; awesome concerts, nice ambient, good people, good prices. One of the best things about Lisbon party, is it doesnt finish, from the club to the beach; I've seen Lux close at 08:00 and Op Art close after 09:00.

Following this; Friday offers DER DRITTE RAUM live at Ghoa Beach; hopefully ready to fill up to the powerfull techno Andreas Kruger and Ralf Uhrlandt are going to play for a ready to bounce audience. If you don't believe so, listen to this awesome happy bouncy tune which hopefully they will be playing for us throughout the night. It all began in 1994 when D3R signed to Sven Vath's legendary Harthouse label with the Mental Modulator release. Immediately they found their audience with a sound hovering somewhere between atmospheric trance and funky techno. D3R also became one of Germany's most loved live electronic acts for their fun and intense performances.

Holger Zilske aka SMASH TV @ Rachdingue

Holger Zilske aka SMASH TV is by now a familiar figure in the electronic music landscape. Since his early beginnings as a producer, performer and sound designer, Holger Zilske’s achievements have steadily garnered him worldwide recognition. As one of the first artists on BPitch Control, one of techno’s most distinguished labels, he has been until now best known under his SMASH TV alias, founded together with former partner Michael Schmidt. 1999 saw the beginning of a prolific, long-term collaboration with BPitch label boss Ellen Allien. SMASH TV’s first own release “Electronic Boy” soon followed on the label, in 2001.

Full biography

Rachdingue is a club of love, its an experience which i would recommend to anyone; unfortunatly the music distributon isn't fabulous; but the experience of being in Salvador Dali's house, dancing in his gardens, in his living room, surrounded by his paintings and furniture makes the experience beautiful; nice decoration, nice lightwork, nice history and nice music make you forget that you have to pay a considerably high sum of 20 Euros to get in.
Rachdingue blog

Last night Holger gave a very good set, after taking over Franck de Villeneuve whom unfortunetly left a lot to hope for; in our opinion, it lost groove too rapidly with brusk takeovers and simple filter selectons; basically we hoped for a smoother and harder set. I also feel like he had a very hard job following the previous resident Dj who gave a pretty aggressive pure techno set, and his tech-house was a comedown most of the crowd wasn't expecting. Luckily his set got better as the night progressed, and finally he broke out his harder songs standing up for himself before Holger started his set.

HOlger started and finished aggresive, his techno pounded throughout his whole set and was well mixed with his tech-house. he played many good songs, and most of his gratest hits and made a grat entrance into Yellow Asteroids. Also he played most of his latest albums songs "Hello Springs" and "te Guardo Una Tarde De Sol".
